Hi, thanks for stopping by. My LinkedIn profile provides most of my work details. I’m a Technical Architect presently working at Shared Services Canada with DND. My work involves automating Unix/Linux based servers with Katello and Puppet. I’ve written Puppet modules to automagically configure DNS, NTP, Puppet agents and banner messages.
Previously I worked at Heritage Canada where I engineered the migration of websites from an older Solaris based environment to a modern, Vmvware backed Linux environment on HP server-class hardware. The back-end storage are Netapp NFS volumes.
Before Heritage, I worked at Public Works and Government Services Canada, within the engineering and technical services group. I was on the major projects team, responsible for engineering and implementing new requests for federal departments, generally three tier websites running on Solaris or Linux hosts.
Technologies I’m familiar with include:
- Katello and Puppet
- Vmware (ESXi 3.5, 4, 5)
- Solaris (8,9,10) and Linux (Red Hat Enterprise 4+5), Windows 2003 and 2008.
- Netapp (NFS and Fibre channel).
- Apache web server, Tomcat, Endeca, Basis, MS SQL.
- MySQL and Oracle databases.
- PHP, Hammer, Perl, and Jacl programming languages.
I’ve programmed applications in PHP and Perl, making calls to Oracle and MySQL databases. This critical application is currently used for server inventory, support documentation and billing purposes within the federal department.
